What is your favorite children's book and why?

Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? My kiddos love this book and we read it together almost daily! I love seeing how excited they get when they guess what’s going to be on the next page!

Who is your greatest inspiration and why?

My younger brother, Connor. He has Down Syndrome and numerous health challenges. Despite all of the hardships he has faced, he is loving, empathetic, caring, and always optimistic. He teaches me each day to be the best version of myself that I can be. I am grateful for all the love he shares with me and my family. He’s an amazing brother, son, uncle and friend. I hope to be as kind and loving as he is.

What are your hobbies and interests outside of work?

Spending time with my family, cooking/baking with my husband and children, traveling, and hiking

What inspired you to work in pediatrics?

My younger brother inspired me to pursue a career in Pediatrics. I always appreciated the support and guidance my family received from his Pediatrician as she helped them navigate the challenges of having a child with complex medical needs. Pediatrics is special to me because of the opportunity to help children as they grow and develop. I am grateful for the chance to form close connections with both children and their families to provide them with the care they need. It’s amazing to see how children grow and really form their personalities over time.

What unique qualities, skills, or services set you apart, and how do you build a positive rapport with patients and their families?

I strive to be an active listener who takes time to understand what my patients and their families are going through and what would best help them. I value compassion and understanding and believe these attributes are central to the patient-provider relationship. I am grateful to have trained at a medical school that emphasized the importance of treating patients as people, not just a diagnosis. I enjoy getting to know my patients so that I can tailor my treatment to best serve them.

How do you accommodate patients with special needs?

My residency focused on treating patients with complex medical needs so I feel equipped to serve as someone who helps families navigate the variety of specialists and therapies their children need. My personal experience with my younger brother who has complex health needs has also been helpful for me to understand how important a medical home is.
