Q&A with Dr. Nyman

What is your favorite animated movie or cartoon?

Too numerous to mention - Warner Brothers classics, Tom & Jerry, The Pink Panther, Jonny Quest

What is your favorite children's book and why?

"Harold and the Purple Crayon," because it so beautifully demonstrates the imagination and creativity of childhood.

What was your favorite childhood toy?

Early childhood - my Steve Austin, Six Million Dollar Man, action figure; Stretch Armstrong; LIte Brite; my neighbor's pachinko machine
Later childhood - the original Atari 2600 game console, and I had a bumper pool table
Hopefully, some of the grandparents, great grandparents, etc. might get a laugh remembering these things

Who is your greatest inspiration and why?

Kids inspire me, because they don't see the world as adults do. And thank goodness for that.

What are your hobbies and interests outside of work?

Hiking, family time, travel, exploring Arizona

What inspired you to work in pediatrics?

I'm honestly not entirely sure, but it was always there. From the time I was a kid, I was telling people I wanted to be a doctor for children. I never seriously considered anything else.

What unique qualities, skills, or services set you apart, and how do you build a positive rapport with patients and their families?

I speak Spanish, and I believe that is invaluable in communication with families who might not speak English as the primary language.
